The Sandi and the Seven Jewels

The Sandi created seven jewels to contain the mysteries of their most important creation: people.  People have never seen these jewels.  The sight of even one of them would be too much for a person to bear, so they are contained in jewel boxes.  And yet, the light of the jewels still manages to penetrate the heart of men and women.  Thus, at certain times, we become aware of our own nature and purpose according to the particular jewel’s light.  Each jewel contains a distinct mystery of mankind:

logic
arithmetic
geometry
rhetoric
grammar
science
music

There have always been forces in the world, some that were even indirectly created by the Sandi, that wish to steal the jewels to alter their spirit, for just as man sometimes reveals a dark side, the light-bearing jewels have the potential to release darkness.

The Entrusting of the Seven Jewels

The Sandi entrusted the seven jewels to the Powers-That-Be of Longfellow. Originally, the PTB were highly honorable administrators of Longfellow who adored the jewels.  In 2011, dangers from within Longfellow and gathering forces outside its walls compelled the PTB to entrust the seven jewels to seven teachers.  Each protector is not even aware who the other six protectors are.  These seven protectors shield the seven jewels from the dark forces outside and within Longfellow.  They are not to reveal to any teacher or citizen if they are a protector of a jewel.  If a protector dies or must leave Longfellow, the jewel must be passed on to another teacher.

The Gathering

At a certain time late in the year, the seven jewels will be called to a special place within Longfellow's walls.  When the jewels are brought there, they will be joined together.  Then, something good will happen, though no one is sure exactly what that will be.

The Mind of the Powers-That-Be

Over the years, the intentions of the PTB have occasionally been questionable.  Sometimes, the PTB would inexplicably suggest a protector give the jewel back to the PTB for safekeeping.  Some of the more radical PTB administrators even doubted the existence of the jewels and wanted the boxes opened.  They said the existence of the jewels was a ruse devised by the Sandi to enslave the minds of the PTB, the teachers and all citizens of Longfellow.  So even the PTB are susceptible to the darkness.
